Campus Change

Campus Change Peer Mentors Wanted!

We are seeking exceptional students who began their UConn journey at a regional campus to mentor upcoming campus change students.

Why Mentorship Matters: Transitioning from a regional campus to Storrs is challenging. As a peer mentor you can make a meaningful impact on incoming students. You’ll help guide them through the academic and social shifts by moderating an online asynchronous course, hosting virtual panels, organizing meet & greets, hosting shadow days, and leading in-person tours at Storrs to foster a sense of community before the campus change students arrive at Storrs.

Who We’re Looking For: The ideal peer mentor has more than just practical knowledge—they possess qualities that make a leader. This role requires patience, empathy, excellent communication, and most importantly, the ability to inspire trust. You’ll need to be adaptable, creative, and proactive in addressing the needs of students who may feel overwhelmed by the transition.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Undergraduate students who have completed at least two full-time, in-person semesters at one of UConn’s regional campuses (Hartford, Stamford, Waterbury, Avery Point).
  • Must have spent at least one semester full-time, in-person at the Storrs campus by the Spring 2025 semester.
  • Required commitment to attend in-person meetings every Tuesday from 2:00-3:00 PM at Storrs for program training for the Spring 2025 semester.

Responsibilities:

The core of this program is an online and asynchronous UNIV TYE: Transition Year Experience (TYE) Course. Pairs of Peer Mentors moderate sections of up to 19 campus change mentees. They deliver content ranging from academics to living to social challenges in the transition to Storrs. Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Create engaging video and asynchronous content for the TYE course.

  • Host virtual panel discussions on various topics
  • Host in-person shadow days for mentees
  • Co-host a full-day Storrs event for mentees (date TBD)
  • Engage in one-on-one mentoring for mentees in your section

What we Offer:

  • Up to 5 hours of work per week at $18/hour for the Spring 2025 semester. Potential to work over summer and in Fall 2025 possible.
  • Paid training and team-building activities before mentee interactions.
  • All majors and regional campus origins are welcome!

Skills we Value:

  • Self-motivation, enthusiasm, and independence.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort with filming and speaking in front of a camera.
  • A genuine desire to engage with and support others.
