UConn Dean of Students Office
Our mission is to provide a place where students come to work with staff to identify possible solutions to challenges they face as they navigate campus life. We provide support without judgment and recognize that every student's experience is unique.
We are here to help!
The Dean of Students Office provides resources to students struggling with a variety of issues and seeks to be the “go to” spot for student assistance on campus.
Short Term Emergency Loan (STELF)
Loans are available to Storrs undergraduate degree seeking students.
The loan must be for school related expenses and
cannot be used to pay a balance owed to the University.
STELF Information
All loans must be repaid by the end of the semester in which it was requested.
Students with an active Bursar hold are not eligible for a STELF loan.
Students First Fund
Funds may be used to pay expenses; to provide a student with assistance during a time of need (e.g. books; clothing; food) and/or other reasonable and typical expenses as would be appropriate in times of loss.
To be considered for the Students First Fund, individuals must meet the criteria listed below:
- Enrolled at UConn
- Priority will be given to undergraduate or graduate degree seeking students
- Demonstrate financial hardship due to an emergency situation, or for unanticipated and compelling circumstances that jeopardize the student’s ability to successfully continue at UConn
- Accessing all other possible funding sources as appropriate including student loans
UConn Swipes
To be considered for this program, currently enrolled UConn students facing food insecurity can schedule an appointment with an Assistant Dean of Students. Through a holistic conversation, the Assistant Dean and student will look at issues affecting the student and complete a needs assessment to determine if the student qualifies for the Swipes program. When a student qualifies they are provided a block of 25 meals to use in any of the UConn Dining Halls and the meals are added that day. The meeting will include referrals to other appropriate resources as well to help in the long term.
