Hearing Agenda
Opening remarks from Hearing Officer(s)
Fact-finding Phase
- Accused Student will be asked if s/he feels “responsible” or “not responsible” for each of the alleged violations
- If the student accepts responsibility the hearing moves to the sanctioning phase. Please note, the Hearing Officer(s) will ask for the pertinent facts of the case prior to sanctioning.
- Complainant’s opening remarks
- Accused Student’s opening remarks
- Complainant’s presentation of facts (including questions for Complainant)
- Accused Student’s presentation of facts (including questions for the Accused Student)
- Questioning of additional witnesses
- Complainant’s closing statement
- Accused Student’s closing statement
- Final questions
Deliberations and Presentation of Decision Regarding Responsibility
- Hearing Officer(s) will deliberate in private while participants wait in a designated area
- Hearing Officer(s) will reconvene the group and present the decision of responsible or not responsible (for each alleged violation) and the rationale behind this decision
- If there is a finding of “not responsible” for all violations then the hearing is concluded
- If there is a finding of “responsible” for one or more violations the hearing immediately moves to the sanctioning phase
Sanctioning Phase
- Presentation by the complainant of the accused student’s academic record and student conduct history if such history exists
- Accused Student’s impact statement
- Complainant’s impact statement
- Hearing Officer(s) may ask questions throughout this phase
Deliberations and Presentation of Sanctions
- Hearing Officer(s) will deliberate in private while participants wait in a designated area
- Hearing Officer(s) will reconvene the group and present the imposed sanctions
- Concluding remarks by the Hearing Officer(s)
- The hearing is concluded
