Academic Matters FAQ

I'm thinking about withdrawing from UConn this semester or not returning next semester. Who do I see? What do I do?

You should arrange to discuss your plans with an Assistant Dean of Students, Room 202, Wilbur Cross Building at (860) 486-3426. The Assistant Dean will discuss your reasons for leaving and explain your options which may help you make your decision. If you do decide to withdraw then the proper paperwork will be initiated for any appropriate refund and to inform other offices.

If I do leave UConn, how do I return later?

You would contact the Dean of Students Office, Readmission Board. There is a short two-page application to complete. There is no cost for applying for Readmission. The same Readmission application is used regardless of how long you have been away or for what reasons you left.

How do I "transfer" from Storrs to a regional campus, and how does this affect my enrollment/graduation from UConn?

You would discuss your plans with the Registrar. It may be cheaper and/or more convenient to attend a regional campus. The Registrar would than assist you in your transfer (campusfer). You are still considered a UConn student, only at a different campus. Often, students complete their last several courses at a regional campus - you still graduate from UConn!

I am an out-of-state student. How do I qualify for instate tuition?

The Connecticut statutes establish criteria for instate residency for tuition purposes. The statutes speak to a permanent domicile, financial independency, and the intent to be a resident of the State. There is an application available in the Dean of Students Office to apply for instate residency. An interview with an Assistant Dean of Students is necessary.

I missed my final examination or have a conflict with my final exam schedule. Who do I see?

You need to meet with an Assistant Dean of Students for permission to take a make up for a missed final exam or to work around a conflict. This should be done prior to the scheduled exam if possible. Student Health Services verifies medical reasons for missing finals. The Dean of Students Office has authority only over final exams - not midterms or any other exams during the semester.

I have some incomplete work from last semester. What are the requirements for completion?

It is your responsibility to contact the instructor to verify what is required for completion. Your deadline for completion is the third week of the next semester in which you are enrolled in a degree status. This date is published in the General Catalog. If you need more time, an extension needs to be requested through the Dean of Students Office in conjunction with the instructor. An "extension" form is available in the Dean of Students Office.

I have an unexpected school related emergency. Where can I get money?

The Dean of Students Office administers a Short Term Emergency Loan Program. You can stop by our office or call for an appointment to complete an application and speak with an Assistant Dean of Students.

Where do I go for questions concerning Veterans benefits?

The Veteran's Center is staffed by students who are also veterans and can assist you in applying for benefits. Check out their website for more information or call them at 486-2442.

I have an ongoing relationship problem with a roommate, friend, co-worker. We seem to be at a stalemate.

The Dean of Students Office can provide trained mediators to act as facilitators in these situations. The mediators are students and staff who have been through an intensified training. They are available to meet with disputants in an effort to assist in resolving conflicts. Call (860) 486-3426 for more information.

I am doing poorly academically and/or fear dismissal. Help!!

Arrange to see an Assistant Dean of Students. We can discuss your academic and personal situation; help to clarify your academic requirements; and link you up with other appropriate resources on campus.
